Though it remains partially attached to the bedrock, it offers remarkable insight into ancient stone-carving techniques.

Continue to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a stunning monument carved into the cliffs. Its terraces and reliefs honor Egypt’s great female pharaoh and her expedition to the Land of Punt for incense, gold, and exotic treasures.

Before heading back, stop at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two giant statues of Amenhotep III that have watched over Thebes for more than 3,000 years.

Continue to the elegant Luxor Temple, begun by Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, Hatshepsut, and Tuthmosis III. Dedicated to the Theban Triad (Amun, Mut, and Khonsu), this temple once stood at the heart of ancient Thebes’ grand religious festivals.

Day 9:Islamic Cairo Tour with Citadel, El Moezz Street & Khan El Khalili

After breakfast at your hotel, embark on a full-day Islamic Cairo city tour with your private Egyptologist guide to explore some of Cairo’s most remarkable Islamic monuments.

Begin with a visit to the Citadel of Saladin, a magnificent medieval fortress built in 1175 AD during the Crusades by the brilliant engineer Bahaa El-Din Karakosh, under the command of Salah El-Din (Saladin). Inside the fortress stands the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, constructed between 1830 and 1848 AD by Mohamed Ali Pasha. Its gleaming domes and sweeping city views make it one of Cairo’s most iconic landmarks.

Enjoy lunch at a quality local restaurant before continuing to the historic Ibn Tulun Mosque, the oldest surviving mosque in Cairo and the first in Egypt built entirely of red brick. Dating back to the 9th century, it stands today as a masterpiece of early Islamic architecture and simplicity.

Next, take a leisurely walk along El Moezz Street, often described as an “open-air museum” of Islamic Cairo. Here, you’ll encounter centuries-old mosques, madrasas, and palaces adorned with exquisite Mamluk and Ottoman designs, offering a vivid glimpse into Cairo’s medieval grandeur.

End your day at the lively Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Cairo’s most famous marketplace since the 14th century. Wander through its bustling alleys filled with spices, perfumes, jewelry, lanterns, and handcrafted souvenirs, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this timeless Egyptian souk.

Day 10:Alexandria Day Trip

After breakfast, set out from Cairo with your private Egyptologist guide for a full-day Alexandria tour, exploring Egypt’s second-largest city and its fascinating blend of ancient heritage and Mediterranean charm.

You’ll visit the majestic Pompey’s Pillar, built in honor of Emperor Diocletian. This monumental column was a gesture of gratitude from the people of Alexandria, thanking the emperor for supporting them during a time of famine by securing a grain supply agreement with Rome.

Continue to the Citadel of Sultan Qaitbay, built in 1477 AD on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The citadel features three floors; the ground floor houses a mosque distinguished by its mosaic decoration. During times of war, the fortress could accommodate up to 20,000 soldiers.

Next, visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest and most important Roman necropolis in Egypt. This underground burial site features three levels carved into the rock and beautifully blends Roman, Greek, and Egyptian artistic styles. It was accidentally discovered in 1902 when a donkey fell through a hole in the ground, revealing the entrance to this mysterious and remarkable tomb.

Next, visit the site of the Great Library of Alexandria, once the largest and most important library of the ancient world. Originally established under Ptolemy II, it was destroyed during a conflict between the Greeks and Romans, when fire from burning Roman ships spread to the library. At its peak, it held around 400,000 scrolls, with only about 35,000 surviving.

Today, the library has been rebuilt and modernized as the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a major cultural and research center open to visitors.

Note: The library is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, except Fridays (closed) and Saturdays (closes early at 2:00 PM). Hours may vary on Armed Forces Day and public holidays.

After completing the tour, you will return to Cairo and be transferred to your hotel for your final overnight stay in Egypt.
